In a pandemic, a cough isn't just a cough. If it's done intentionally, it's assault, Spokane police say, pointing to a case from Wednesday.
It all began when Spokane police got a tip just after noon on Wednesday about a fugitive hiding out at a home in the 4200 block of South Scott Street. When officers arrived, they found 22-year-old Shayden Macri — who's wanted on a felony probation violation out of Idaho — hiding in a bedroom closet, police say.
"Tanner came downstairs toward the two officers detaining Shayden, and forcibly, intentionally, coughed in each officer’s face," a police press release says. "Tanner attempted to do this again after officers arrested him and were escorting him to a patrol car to be taken to jail."
Tanner Macri was booked on two counts of third-degree assault on law enforcement officers, one count for each officer, police say. Shayden Macri was booked on a misdemeanor warrant and as a fugitive for the warrant out of Idaho.
