Look Out for Flying Gak! -- Everybody knows a wild and crazy kid. Two six-year-old girls who have better fashion sense than most grown-ups, running shrieking and laughing all over the yard? They count. Your little nephew who is the soccer god of all his peers? He's one, too. But the planners behind Nickelodeon's Wild and Crazy Kids Activity Zone program, debuting Oct. 24 at the Spokane Opera House, are thinking of wild and crazy in terms of skateboard tricks, trampoline acrobatics, basketball prowess and effervescent childhood glee.

The Wild and Crazy Kids Activity Zone program is a first-of-its-kind event based on the hugely popular Nickelodeon TV program, Wild and Crazy Kids. Hosted by Mati Moralejo (who also hosts the TV show), the Activity Zone is an interactive extravaganza in which kids and adults go onstage to compete in all sorts of messy, hilarious, high-energy games and stunts. But what makes the Spokane event especially, well, special, is the fact that the Wild and Crazy Kids Activity Zone kicks off right here, before traveling to second-rate towns like Houston, Miami, Green Bay, Kansas City, L.A., Columbus, Greenville and Washington, D.C.

Spokane County Commissioner John Roskelley is also Chair of the Spokane Regional Health District's Physical Activity and Obesity Coalition and was instrumental in bringing the Activity Zone to town. More than 40 local schools and youth programs have also contributed in bringing the event here. They've planned jump rope tournaments, soccer games -- even practicing water conservation and healthy dinner planning.

While the Opera House show is undoubtedly going to be entertaining, planners hope kids get the larger message, which is that it's important to run, jump, play and get involved in the world around them. To that end, the Activity Zone has paired up with the U.S. Department of Health and Social Services Center for Disease Control and Prevention's "Verb. It's What You Do" campaign, which has a strong presence in the live Wild and Crazy Kids event. The Nickelodeon antics are set in a framework of pro-physical and pro-social positive behavior.

Here in the Buzz Bin, we're childish enough to appreciate most Nickelodeon pranks and adult enough to understand the need for kids to develop their sports, gamesmanship and community awareness skills. To the fine folks at Wild and Crazy Kids Activity Zone, we say "Bring it on!"
