Be Heard -- From Biblical times to the present, war has always inspired writers, whether they're beating swords into plowshares or praising heroism in battle. The most thought-provoking work somehow manages to do a little of both, reflecting the complexity and moral ambiguity of war experiences. On Sunday evening, Out Loud at Mootsy's continues the tradition by inviting singers, musicians, artists, veterans and soldiers to come and express themselves at an open mike around the theme, "Reflections on War." If war compels you to respond, head on over to Mootsy's at 6 pm on Sunday.





Elves Exist -- Need a David Sedaris fix between his Get Lit! appearances last year and next? Local actor Bil Childress will perform the hour-long theatrical adaptation of Sedaris' already classic "The Santaland Diaries" on Dec. 5 and Dec. 11 at the Met. Prepare to be appalled by grouchy Santas, pushy parents and horny elves as Childress impersonates more than 40 characters at Macy's Santaland. In case you haven't figured it out, this is one holiday event not for kids. Call 325-SEAT.





We Got the Hook Up -- After the yearly turkey binge at one Inlander household, inevitable boredom set in after the tryptophan-induced nap. All stores were closed, the TV was making us stir-crazy and another game of the '90s Edition of Trivial Pursuit was out of the question -- so we turned to the Internet for holiday entertainment. We came across AskSnoop.com, the homepage of our favorite rapper, where you can type in any Web address and have it "Shizzolated." That's the translation of any Web site into "Snoop Speak." We thought Inlander.com was exceptionally shizzolate-able -- with plenty of "izzles," "shizzles" and "y'know what I'm sayin's" now dotting our site. We particularly recommend shizzolating sites like whitehouse.gov and spokesmanreview.com. Fo shizzle.





Nice Digs -- If you've got cabin fever and you need to get out of your house this weekend, why not check out other people's homes on the Spokane Preservation Advocates fifth annual Historic Home Tour? This year, the tour takes place on Summit Boulevard and includes homes designed by Kirtland Cutter, F. Omar Hughes and W.W. Hyslop. Tickets are $10; $15 for non-members. Call 328-8046.
