The Fairer Sex -- Two X chromosomes and ten bucks are all you need to get into this weekend's orgy of health information, makeovers, lectures and freebies known as the first-ever Sacred Heart Women's Show. The scheduled list of speakers is dizzying - presentations include the Spokane Police Department's Stacey Carr on "Avoiding Identity Theft," the Spokane Women Mountaineers on "Staying Active Throughout the Year" and even Keith Knittle from the Holy Family Sleep Center on "Pillow Talk." There's fun to be had as well - the show includes wine sampling, "tasty tidbits," live music and artwork by local artists Melissa Cole, Louise Kodis, Margot Casstevens and Kay O'Rourke (to name a few). Gliding Into Fifth -- If you were in the audience at last Friday's Terry Trueman reading at Auntie's Bookstore, then you got a sneak preview into North by Northwest's newest upcoming film project -- the movie adaptation of Trueman's young adult novel Stuck in Neutral, which will be filmed right here in Spokane. Trueman's wise, unsentimental story of a 14-year-old with cerebral palsy is that rare YA book -- daring, original and dead smart. North by Northwest's Juan Mas (who recently worked on Jonah and the Whale with Josh Hartnett and Radha Mitchell) is scheduled to direct.





Food, Fun and Fab Frocks -- We're coming up on that time of the year when charitable organizations are gonna need every extra bit of help. With that in mind, consider the upcoming benefit for Lutheran Community Services on Thursday, Nov. 11. "Lights, Laughter and Fashion" combines the tasty comestibles of Catacombs (mmm... pizza!) with the rapid-fire comedy antics of ComedySportz and a fashion show from hip new boutique Girl From Ipanema. Tickets are only $15, and all proceeds go to help Lutheran Community Services. The event takes place at ComedySportz, 227 W. Riverside Ave. Call 363-1279.





Doing Their Part for Art -- This just in from the fine folks over at Interplayers: If you're out enjoying the First Friday artwalk tomorrow night, be sure to finish up at Interplayers, where they're offering a half off "Art Lovers Discount."
