Serendipitously, they had already scheduled a fund-raising event for this weekend. So whether you're looking to donate or buy, get yourself down to CenterStage's "indoor garage sale" on Friday, July 14, from 8 am-6 pm and on Saturday from 8 am-noon. A Poet, and He Do Know It & r & In the Washington Wilderness Coalition's 2006 Poetry Contest, Paul Haeder won both first place (for "Drinking Bly's Martini Near Latah Creek") and honorable mention. Haeder -- a frequent Inlander contributor, winner of our 2004 Short Fiction Contest and author of our "Treading Lightly" series on sustainable living -- will be honored on July 17 in Seattle. CdA Is Not in CdA & r & Coeur d'Alene Park, that is. It's in Browne's Addition (which is just west of downtown Spokane). You need to know that, because you need to celebrate having just one more day of the work week ahead of you by chillin' on Thursday evenings. And you can do just that in blissful park-like surroundings on Thursdays from 6-8 pm during the 10th annual Browne's Addition Summer Concert Series (through Aug. 31).

Soccer's Nasal Hooligan & r & We love the part of Major League Baseball games when the camera operator zooms in on some manager spitting and adjusting his crotch, then puts it up on the Jumbotron screen for everybody in the ballpark to see. But our favorite part of the World Cup final on Sunday was even better: In the 27th minute, the camera caught the referee blowing his nose -- with his fingers, one nostril after the other. While being watched by 1.1 billion people.





Doug Dawson Memorial & r & You were horrified by what happened to him on our streets; now you can do something constructive about it. As part of the "Help 4 the Homeless Outdoor Gear Drive," donations will be accepted through July 21 at 151 S. Washington St. -- "camping gear and anything else that might make life a little bit better for those who are facing the challenges of homelessness." That includes sleeping bags, rain gear, flannel shirts, hats, blankets, coats, tents, tarps -- you get the idea.
