Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius -- We had to laugh at one of the ham-fisted print ad campaigns we saw for this one: "He had a Passion... for Golf." Yep. Jim "Jesus" Caviezel plays 1920s golf pro and Masters tournament founder Bobby Jones, who was widely respected for his wit, intelligence and love of the game. Jones won four major championships in one year (a record that continues to be unbroken) before retiring at the age of 28. Rated: PG





Envy -- Is there any movie opening within the next three months that Ben Stiller isn't in? Here, he plays the insanely, rabidly jealous neighbor of a man (Jack Black) who invents "Vapoorize," a product that makes walking your dog with a handful of baggies in your pocket a thing of the past. Rated: PG-13





Godsend -- In a 21st-century nod to all those hair-raising demon child movies of the past (Rosemary's Baby, The Omen, The Exorcist), Godsend combines a healthy fear of technology with good ol' supernatural happenings around the house. Rebecca Romijn-Stamos and Greg Kinnear play a bereaved young couple who are convinced by their doctor (Robert De Niro) to let him try cloning their recently deceased eight-year-old. Rated: PG-13





Laws Of Attraction -- There's screen chemistry (and alcohol imbibing and junk-food eating) galore in this cheery and winningly played romantic comedy about two top-notch New York divorce lawyers (Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore). At each other's throats in the courtroom, these opposites -- she's disciplined, he's loosey-goosey -- really attract at other times. A nasty case sends them both to romantic Ireland, where they get a little too close, then back home to straighten things out, maybe. Excellent comic timing from both leads, plenty of witty dialogue, and they're both so darn good-looking, this is impossible not to enjoy. (ES) Rated PG-13





Mean Girls -- The new girl in town, Cady (Lindsay Lohan), has been home-schooled and now faces her first day as a junior in high school. And it's a whole new world. She finds a couple of friends, but is invited into the exclusive clique of three known as the Plastics, headed up by rich and vicious Regina (Rachel McAdams). Things get catty concerning old boyfriends and jealousy, and when Cady gets thoughts of breaking up the horrid trio, things go so wrong, she starts acting like them. Tina Fey's script is both funny, edgy and dark, and the film is sprinkled with imaginative sight gags and fantasies. Lohan is maturing as an actress; McAdams is going to be a star.
