Reilly as two really immature 40-year-olds whose single parents (Richard Jenkins, Mary Steenburgen) marry. The "boys" must move in and share a room, with each trying to figure out and act on the best reasons to hate the other. Toilet humor abounds, along with naughty jokes, cussing and, because Judd Apatow is involved, a bit of male nudity. Dumb-ass movie of the year. (ES) Rated R

AND WHEN DID YOU LAST SEE YOUR FATHER?

The story of a son (Colin Firth) who never seems to do well enough for his father (Jim Broadbent) despite being a successful writer and a good man. It's a gulf of appreciation that's been there for years, leading the son to grow ever more distant. When a sudden illness thrusts the two back together, there's an opportunity to work back across their patchy history and mend the loose strands. Based on the Blake Anderson novel. (LB) Rated PG-13

THE X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE

In typical X-Files fashion, everything about this movie is Top Secret. (Only key members of the film crew were actually allowed to read the script.) So far, there hasn't been much in the way of leaks, so the storyline remains unknown. It has been said that the film is a freestanding story, following the tradition of many great episodes from the TV series. Either way, many devotees are sure to flock to the theater to see what Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) are up to this time -- 10 years after the first movie and six years after the end of the series. Also starring are Xzibit, Amanda Peet and Billy Connolly. Chris Carter, the series' creator and the film's co-writer, directs. (JF) Rated PG-13
