Right on cue, the lilacs around the Inland Northwest are bursting with sweet-smelling blooms in all shades of violet, lavender and creamy white. The culmination of the weeklong Spokane Lilac Festival happens Saturday night with a favorite community event, the 79th annual Torchlight Parade. As many as 300 floats and group entries from across the region will cruise the streets of downtown Spokane, including cavalcades of retired and active duty servicemen and servicewomen, local dignitaries, area high school marching bands and much more. Prime viewing locations along the sidewalks of the parade route fill up quickly, so pack up your lawn chairs, blankets and some snacks for a fun, family-friendly night on the town.
