Re: “Partisan Pagans

I am also a member of POtW, and this was suppose to be an article about witches not politics. I am disappointed that Ms. Byrd did not research what witches are about. Are coven is not a group of conservatives, we are a blended group with many different political beliefs. She not only lied to my friend Lola, but took what she said out of context. I am very disappointed in Ms. Byrd and the Inlander. Ms. Byrd led Lola to believe that this story was about Witches and what are religious beliefs were about, not anyone's political beliefs.

Re: “Partisan Pagans

It is a shame that there are reporters doing this work who don't even know how to basic research on an article. As a proud member of POTW and a witch himself to read the idocy spewed from this person's lack of knowledge of anything that has to do with Witchcraft and Wicca is laughable. However at the same time I know some readers will take this article as gospel and run with it. I am one of those "Trump" supporters that you wrote about and cast in the most ridiculous way possible. I am a supporter of our basic rights. I also am a proud American who loves his country try and has served in the military to protect this great country try and it's citizens from enemies both foreign and domestic. I encourage anyone that truely want to know more about our religion and talk to people that walk the path of the ancient ones to do more than a basic 5 second Google search and talk to someone that walks the path. Do not give this article one second of consideration. This "reporter" couldn't even get the basic history of our path right let alone do a decent job reporting on what was actually said. Instead words were twisted to suit this morons need and painted the picture they wanted to show. This is probably one of the worst articles I have ever read. You should not be a reporter in my humble opinion.

Re: “Partisan Pagans

I agree, lack of research ethic, full of bias and historically incorrect. Typical of journalism in today's world. Ms. Byrd misrepresented not only POW but also misrepresented the entire pagan community both locally and globally with her willful lack of research and verification. Shame on her and the Inlander After this I won't personally read another article or pick one up ever again.

Re: “Partisan Pagans

This is a terrible article. As a member of the group in question, I'm pretty appalled that they didn't even do a modicum of research. PotW isn't "An outspoken Conservative group." They're a group that happens to have SOME members who are Conservative. Like any good religious organization, they do not take sides on political issues.

Jordyn Byrd lied to my friend Lola about the focus when she wrote this article, and took the things she said out of context. Shame on her, and shame on the Inlander. The author of this article also didn't even do any research into what Wicca and Witchcraft are beyond what I can only assume was a 5-minute Google search. "Neopaganism is an offshoot of Wicca left by feminist activists." What?? You have literally no idea what you're talking about. I'm sure my pagan friends are all laughing at this, but it's no laughing matter when you consider that this is supposed to be respectable journalism. This is all-around terrible.

Re: “Partisan Pagans

Unforunately my words were taken out of context in this article and i was led to believe this wouldnt be an article mainly about witches and politics or else i would not have partaken in it...
People of the Woods is NOT an outspoken politically conservative coven...i said to Miss Byrd we have all kinds of people in our coven with diverse political beliefs and sometimes butt heads with eachother...she made it sound like i am the only liberal in the coven and its me against them..not happy about this article, but just goes to show you..reporters lie..

Re: “Finding the Words

What a great piece. Surprised such a huge event was stuck in the very back of the Inlander. I remember that in order to get women's rights, women for suffrage endured being force fed and did in fact do things not considered "nice things," like protest the president right at the white house. Women were arrested in order to get the vote, as well. In England, women were down right militant. Voting is just one part of democracy. Democracy is also about freedom of expression. The hats were cat ear hats, a metaphor for what the now elected President referred to grabbing, the man in the highest office of our nation being voted in and what he says about women brushed aside and then women attacked by others for not being nice or civilized or polite for wearing pink cat ear hats is a paradox of the times and says a lot. Satire is a time honored tradition of protest and wit and tongue in cheek wry, humor. It was a play on words, and very much the sort of thing a woman might have done then as well as now. And yes, back then, those against suffrage said it was about "getting attention" and not rights. That women were being selfish, instead of tending to their womanly duties. Over a hundred years later and still the same story.

Re: “Finding the Words

Why were all the pro-life women summarily excluded from the national Women's March in D.C.? "Reproductive rights" basically means that you want to be sexually irresponsible and have someone else pay for it .

Re: “Finding the Words

Remember when Susan B. Anthony and other suffragettes wore vagina hats, and other disgusting chants and costumes and slogans regarding their body parts?

Being revolting is all about attention and getting selfie moments; not truly about Women's Rights. Welcome to the new age of being disenfranchised.

Re: “A Fresh Take

When we heard that it was opening, and then when we found out who was running the place, my wife and I were over the moon, and have been in a few times already, and will be back many times to follow! The sushi is amazing, hot dishes great, lovely atmosphere, amazingly friendly service, and prices are right where I would want them to be for great sushi!

Jeers to all of you who denounce hate and now are spreading the very thing you denounce with all your words and protests. I no longer feel safe around any of you, and I am LGBT! I will no longer stand with you hypocrites! Because my eyes have been opened to this, I am saying goodbye to the Liberal party and saying hello to Log Cabin Republicans.

Re: “I Saw You | Cheers & Jeers

I Jeers to the person who wrote "Cheer Up America". First, I'd like to say Trump did demean women and ridiculed pretty much every major demographic in America EXCEPT elitist white males (much like himself). Second, you're on Obamacare. Well, Trump and the other two branches of government that also happen to consist of majority republicans plan to repeal Obamacare. And, they intend to block any filibuster made by democrats to do it. So, you may as well say goodbye to your medical care. And, as for SNL, it is a comedy show and not meant to be taken seriously. Furthermore, SNL and companies producing it have the right to freedom of expression. And, last but not least nuther and ain't aren't words. And, your multiple use of these is a prime example of how lacking the educational standards are in America. I'm not saying I like or agree with Hillary. What she did was illegal and, she deserves to serve time for her deeds. But, I don't think Trump is right for America either. But, nevertheless he is who the people voted for. And, Americans will learn the lesson of being careful what they wish for.

Re: “Snow Removal Blues

Hi Kelly Rae, i think i might have a few answers for you as i used to work for the city of Spokane street dept for several years and have an inside scoop on many of it's workings. First off the deicer we use is a magnesium cloride which is designed to be applied to the road to prevent the snow from sticking so that we can plow the streets cleaner. It also can deice a thin layer of packed snow and ice usually no more than 1 inch thick. Now that is only if it is applied at a heavy rate of 40-80 gal per lane mile or more. Now our head management has told us time and time again only to apply it at 20-30 (gplm) and also only on hills, curves and lit intersections. Which means that all of the spaces in between will remain super icy and at such a low rate even the hills will only see safe ice melting after multiple applications from several shifts of workers. The only reason the deicer is not applied to the entire route and at an effective rate in the first place is, you guessed it money. Our head engineer Andy Schenk only cares about staying on budget. He will sacrifice pubic safety time and time again just so he doesn't look incompetent and have to ask the city council for more funding. He also gets a bonus if we keep our deicer budget under what city hall has allocated. So that is the main reason why the arterials in town remain super icy for most of the winter. He also buys the cheapest plow trucks money can buy. The paticular brand of Freightliner trucks we buy are terrible for plowing snow and do not even have a locking differential. They are constantly breaking down. Which means of the 60 or so peices of snow removal equipment we have at least 20 percent are usually broken down and waiting for repairs. Again it's a money thing as a nice Mac or Kenworth can cost 200k plus but a Freightliner costs only 120k. We also have lost many positions in the last 30 years. I think we had somwhere around 100 employees 30 or 40 years ago. Now we only have 60 do to yearly budget cuts. We also spread those 60 people out very thin to cover day and night shifts 7 days a week during the winter months. Our management also doesnot like to pay overtime wages and time and time again refuses to call in the entire work force for an active storm. Leaving on an average day or night maybe 12 people to make sure that every arterial street in town is safe. That is the best case, not including those on vacations or out sick. As far as the trucks running with their plows up. Most likely the truck has either a mechanical issue and is heading in for repairs or the driver is heading in for a lunch break. You can only plow at 10-15 miles an hour and that takes a long time to drive back to the shop for break. So to sum up bad management decisions have basically tied the hands of the employees who are trying to be as efficient as possible. That and a lack of good equipment and proper staffing equals poor response times during and after snow events.

Re: “Snow Removal Blues

Interesting when the Inlander, the liberal publication, writes a sympathetic article, to the "plan" and the Spokesman-Review, the conservative paper writes an article comparing other cities management to Spokane's versus the statements of those in charge of the budget for our streets. When the SR makes a criticism it's probably well beyond the time for something to be done. I'm surprised, Inlander. I think we'd all like to know how, in a multi-million dollar streets budget, the city only allotted $750,000 to snow-plowing, knowing this was going to be terrible winter? If Madison, WI and other cities about our size are doing a better job, it's time to ask some different questions. The revenue being lost from lack of plowing may be greater than that spent on not plowing, not to mention accidents this year. I think it's time for a lot of us to speak up at City Hall next public opportunity. People getting stuck on Main Street Downtown, a major thoroughfare. Plows going around with their blades up. People want answers.

Re: “Snow Removal Blues

I believe it's 'corrosion' not 'erosion' caused by the road salt.
And La Nina is actually Colder and Wetter ( more snow than rain) than normal - Great for us SKIERS! :-)
