Welcome to the one-major-theatrical-release-a-week days of summer:
HAPPY
Happiness is an emotion that doctors used to say you couldn’t gauge. But documentary filmmaker Roko Belic (Genghis Blues) takes us on a global journey to find the key to balancing our desires of wealth and fame with relationships and contentment. Along with personal stories of happiness, the film interviews leading neuroscientists and psychologists to delve deeper into the mind's inner workings. Happiness is contagious! Feel-good film of the year? (JH) Magic Lantern only. Not rated
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
It's almost unthinkable, but what we've got here is an origin story that's better than anything in the series that's been released before it. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, meeting here as young men. Plotlines include their evolving relationship, tales of mentoring and revenge, and even some historical context involving the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. Exciting, intense, funny, well-acted, sharply directed, this will please fans of the series as well as newcomers. (ES) Rated PG-13 | SHOWTIMES
