They'll be giving one award to the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation and another to Patty Martin, the former mayor of Quincy.
The Tribes filed suit against Teck Metals, a Canadian company recently found liable for dumping hazardous waste into the Columbia River. Martin is known for challenging the development of massive data centers by Microsoft, Yahoo and other companies near Quincy, 140 miles west of Spokane, because of the diesel particulates emitted from the centers' back-up engines.
