1. Spokane police Sgt. Gordon Ennis was booked into jail on second-degree rape charges yesterday, and Sgt. John Gately, president of the police guild, is accused of tipping Ennis off to the contents of a search warrant sought by the Spokane County Sheriff's Office. 2. The current parks spokeswoman, Monique Cotton, will have to reapply for her job next year. Cotton, the former police spokeswoman, was transferred to the Parks Department in May after she alleged to Mayor David Condon that former Police Chief Frank Straub sexually harassed her.

3. Just four days after a 57-year-old man killed three people during a shooting spree at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado, 14 people are dead in an attack on a social service center in San Bernardino, Calif. Seventeen people were injured in that attack, and two armed suspects were killed in a shootout with police. They have been identified as Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik. A third suspect is detained, but authorities are unsure if there is a connection to the shooting. Police are still searching for a motive. (Los Angeles Times, San Bernardino Sun)
4. Meanwhile, San Francisco police shot and killed a suspected stabber Wednesday after the man approached an officer. Reports say officers first tried to subdue the man with beanbag rounds. Bystanders caught some of the encounter on video. (Huffington Post, San Francisco Gate)
5. Olympic star Oscar Pistorius was found guilty of murder for the 2013 killing of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, a South African appeals court ruled Thursday. (BBC)
