Re: “Follow the Money

Branding city races nonpartisan "protects us from the extremes of party politics"? How?
Challenging our mayor is a deputy chief of staff for one of the most extreme Republican members of Congress, and he brings national party money to bear on the race. Challengers for some of the city council seats are barely less extreme, with major local conservatives bankrolling them.
On the liberal side, we have some strong Democrats with major union endorsements. Not exactly nonpartisan.
Let´s face it: Spokane city politics is highly partisan and becoming more so thanks to the big money you mention, most of which is flooding into local races to reverse the decline of Spokane´s historic conservatism. Races from here out will be decided by media budgets, and they will not be pretty. Buckle up.
