    For those who may be curious, I wanted to clarify that the Hall family did not pitch me this story. I obtained the DNR investigative report independently and then tracked down the family through court records and social media. Because of the limited media coverage back in October, I asked them to tell me more about Daniel Hall to help establish a more complete story of what happened.

    We also plan to look into the other DNR fatality that has been brought to our attention and may write a follow-up piece regarding that case and any potential similarities to the Hall incident. We ask all commenters to refrain from making unsubstantiated claims or personal attacks.

    Burns must certify whether an investigation was "timely, thorough and objective." So he does focus primarily on how investigations are conducted and finalized.
