Re: “How not to get away with picking up a prostitute on East Sprague Avenue

Just curious, but with there being 3 arrests, what was the impetus for the writer, or the paper, to write only and specifically about this one?

Re: “CdA Cops watched these five training videos after Arfee’s death

"I think it was an inexperienced officer who didn’t know what he shot at before he hit it."

Well...that's a terrifying. Shoot first and then let's go see what it is we shot at...

Re: “This is how brash bike thieves are in Spokane

Having a cable lock is almost the equivalent of not having a lock at all, when thieves are scoping out the bike rack, that's the one that'll get grabbed every time, regardless of the value of the bike. And I say that as someone who had to learn the lesson the hard way as well (coming out one morning to find my bike gone and the cable still sitting there, probably took the thief less than a minute to nab my bike).

Cable locks should only be used in conjunction with a U-Lock. NEVER secure your bike using only a cable lock. NEVER.

Also, if you see someone tampering with a bike lock in any way, call the police! (I do like that you at least got pictures though). But man, this is even more frustrating considering this happened literally 1 minute away from the police station (and there are often officers sitting in the Arena parking lot doing their paperwork who could have been there in seconds). Let the police sort it out if it turns out to be their bike.

Re: “Case Closed?

This is a case that´s always bothered me, the lack of follow-up or fallout internally and even from the media is embarrassing to us as a city. Even by the cop´s own story, this is still a case where an off-duty police officer chased a man through a public neighborhood, physically assaulted him, and then drunkenly shot him IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. If this was anyone other than a police officer, they´d be in jail.
Olsen being allowed to avoid interview for shooting someone in the head for two days, the 911 tape mysteriously lost, but conveniently the dispatcher is suddenly available to testify during the trial (where was this guy during the criminal trial two years earlier against Pete?), the complete lack of effort by the prosecution (a key witness wasn´t even CALLED in as the prosecution felt it´d be too much trouble, through the witness says he would have gladly come in). The embarrassing sight of police officers cheering as Olsen was acquitted. This wasn´t just an off-duty cop, it was a systematic abuse of power that it has been and continues to be brushed aside by the mechanisms that are supposed to act as "checks" against this kind of behavior is indicative of what we as a city stand for.
