Heiken's works explore the human condition in relation to a world in liminality. Using dark humor, the works expose truths about the dysfunction of humanity and its inability to deal with modern crises: piles of paint could be body parts or excrement. Such blurred distinctions leave the viewer with a sense of the absurd nature of the world. Heiken is an international artist currently based in Spokane. His most recent solo exhibition, Monsters, was presented at the Hunter/Whitfield Gallery in London.
