by MICHAEL BOWEN & r & & r & Moira and Mary & r & & r & Retired NIC theater instructor Tim Rarick researched his family heritage back to 18th-century Ireland -- and along the way, encountered a nun who had taught Rarick's mother at Our Lady of Lourdes School (attached to the downtown Catholic cathedral) in 1929. Rarick developed a play about the episode -- the stock market crash, a shattered family, a Christmas pageant -- and now, for the second year, This Child will be performed in Schuler Auditorium. Performances on Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 20-22, at 7:30 pm and on Sunday, Dec. 23, at 2 pm. Tickets: $11; $9, children. Call (208) 769-7780.

Your brother-in-law -- it's so hard to Christmas-shop for that guy. And now he just crashed his snowmobile somewhere out in the woods.
