by MICHAEL BOWEN & r & & r & Moira and Mary & r & & r & Retired NIC theater instructor Tim Rarick researched his family heritage back to 18th-century Ireland -- and along the way, encountered a nun who had taught Rarick's mother at Our Lady of Lourdes School (attached to the downtown Catholic cathedral) in 1929. Rarick developed a play about the episode -- the stock market crash, a shattered family, a Christmas pageant -- and now, for the second year, This Child will be performed in Schuler Auditorium. Paul Grove, Max Mendez, Cynthia Marlette and the Sweet Adelines join the Northwest Sacred Music Chorale on Wednesday, Dec. 19, at 7 pm at St. Pius Catholic Church, 625 Haycraft Ave., Coeur d'Alene, with tickets at $10 ... from Friday to Wednesday, the African Children's Choir -- orphans from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda and Uganda -- will sing five concerts in Spokane Valley, Medical Lake and north Spokane, with donations requested; visit www.africanchildrenschorus.com ... and while it's not holiday music per se, your ears will still feel festive if you listen to Friday night's Casual Classics concert at the Fox, with the Eckart Preu Band playing Respighi's The Birds and Beethoven's Pastoral Symphony and the Seattle Symphony's principal cellist, Joshua Roman, performing the Kabalevsky concerto.
