Thanks for beginning to tackle a mostly taboo topic.

Re: “Opening New Doors

I had 4 Scel students living with me as home stay students. In addition to concern over low wages paid teachers, I felt they did an inadequate job of helping foreign students experience American culture. They mostly left them on their own with no support activities after classroom hours. The exceptions were teachers who saw the need for constructive connections and activities and donated their time and money.

Re: “Learning from Loretta

Hopefully. A women's day will be outdated.... When there is equal pay for equal work, and when so called woman's work of teaching and caring for others is financially valued in our culture.

Re: “The MAC board votes to fire the museum's executive director...again

Well the Lego show sure was great and creatively presented. I went when the Super Bowl was on and had to wait inline to get in. We do love our museum in spite of the politics.

Re: “The Ethicists

At the last hearing there were 6 white men and one white woman sitting on the ethics commission and in the city council chamber seats. (One person sat away from the others. I am not sure why.) While I appreciate their volunteering their time as citizens, I, as a woman, did not feel fairly represented at first glance. I imagine this thought might be shared by people of color also.

Re: “Mothers and Leaders

This lack of awareness of what really happened in American history will continue unless common core standards are amended to include study of history and civics. We need to also value physical health, science and the arts. At this point what gets tested is what gets taught.
