Elvis Presley may be “The King of Rock ’n’ Roll,” but “The King of Rock ’n’ Roll Who Actually Wrote His Own Songs”? That title assuredly goes to Mr. Elvis Costello. The British pop rock legend is one of the best singer-songwriters the genre has ever seen with an ear for melodic bliss, punk edge, new wave pizzazz and heartbreaking melancholy. And while he may not be a hip-shaking sex symbol, Costello still possesses an energetic charisma every time he takes the stage. Is it a bit strange that Daryl Hall — sans Oates — is the headliner at Northern Quest over Elvis Costello & The Imposters? Certainly! But true rock fiends know what the real main event is.
