Re: “Wearing Yellowface

Cultural appropriation, in its most basic definition, is one culture using elements or adopting habits of another culture.

White peoples culture is the most dominate in the world, yet they only make up 16% of the worlds population whereas asias population makes up around half the worlds population. Whos appropriating who based on your definition of a "dominate" group stealing anothers culture?

Lets take a look at what has been appropriated from white culture

Karlheinz Brandenburg, invented the MP3 player

John Harington and Joseph Bramah, inventors of the modern toilet

Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn, inventors of the internet

Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss, inventors of jeans

Alexander Grahm Bell and Thomas Watson, inventors of the telephone

Steven Sasson, inventor of the digital camera.

Everybody uses these white peoples creations invented in their culture, but no call to justice had been heard.
Like previous arguments state in this feed, saying only geishas should wear kimonos or only Africans can wear dreadlocks perpetrates intolerance and racism. Twisting the definition of cultural appropriation so it screams opression only furthers segregation and stunts the progression of humanity.
