Re: “Why Idaho kids don't go to college

I am a first generation college graduate, Idaho born and raised graduate from a north idaho logging town. My parents barely graduated high school, but I knew I wanted more. I worked my way through college with no car to save money. It was the 80's and Dad's financial support was $100 a month for the first school year. It took me 4 schools to graduate with a BS, but I did. I paid back the amount I had borrowed and worked for a few companies till I found one that would help with graduate school. I attended while working full time and paid my way without loans. I have been out of high school for 27 years, but I did it and don't owe anything. It can be done - but students have to want to pay their way and do what it takes. Idaho students can make it, even if from a logging family, poor school district and as a first generation college student- I am proof of that.
