Eugene Ballet: Scheherazade

In the classic One Thousand and One Nights, the clever new wife of the Persian king stalls her execution by telling a story she leaves unfinished. The following night, Scheherazade tells another story and leaves the king with another cliffhanger. The Eugene Ballet’s kaleidoscopic interpretation, with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s 1888 score and choreography by the late Portland choreographer Dennis Spaight, retells the stories with exotic scenes and colorful costumes. The performance also includes artistic director Toni Pimble’s choreographic interpretation of Maurice Ravel’s famous “Boléro” and two other works.
