The Butler Slave Research Project traced Spokane resident Patricia Bayonne-Johnson’s maternal ancestors who were enslaved by the Jesuits of Georgetown University. In 1838, 272 slaves were sold to two plantation owners in Louisiana to pay down the university's debt. Patricia descends from six Jesuit slaves, namely the Butlers and the Scotts. Traditional resources and resources that are unique to African Americans will be discussed by the Butler Team: Patricia Bayonne-Johnson, Carol Anderson, Patricia Ayers, Janette Birch, Barbara Brazington, Mary Holcomb, Juanita McBride, and Dolly Webb.
