Since its founding in 2014, Girls Rock Lab has helped local kids embrace their inner musical superstar, inviting girls from third through eighth grade to participate in an annual summer camp that has them explore pop and rock music as a way of celebrating individuality and fostering collaboration. Local musicians teach the young participants about the history of popular music and basic musical theory, and they dole out pointers for writing your own songs and making your own DIY instruments. And at the end of it, there’s typically a concert, a big showcase for the girls to present their bands and songs. Of course, the pandemic has put a stop to live music, so this online version of Girls Rock Lab is the next best thing. The online camp is free to attend, but registration is required and organizers ask that you only sign up if you can attend all four days.
