When Callahan enters, and speaks, it’s the voice that captures your attention, - powerful and smooth. And what diction! The accent and the intonation are marvellous! I totally agree when you say, “… resonant as mahogany, smooth as late-night FM radio.”
What keeps the interest going is the suspense. Callahan is the nice guy, agreeable to the point of being so likeable, that you don’t notice his Machievellian cunning till the end. This is the dimension that Kahlil Joseph adds to his portrayal of Callahan. He does not play Callahan as visibly bad. Callahan is the professor you can trust, almost to the very end, and that is what makes him frightening, because what appears to be good is in truth evil.
Joseph impressed me so much that I looked him up on the Net, and he seems to have an mpressive resume. Here’s wishing him good luck in his career. We need actors like him in films and TV too.
