Re: “Gonzaga Law overrated by the masses

This is exactly the type of journalism I´ve come to expect from The Inlander; ill-informed, one-sided, slanted writing.
If you analyze the thesis of this article even minimally, it becomes obvious that the problem lies not with GU Law (given the fact that the school is lauded by the public when "crowdsourced"), but rather with the US News and World Report rankings. Even a modicum of effort by this author would have unveiled the ever-growing sentiment among people who "have a good chance of knowing what they´re talking about" that the US News and World Report law school rankings are not a good measure of the value of an institution; especially any further down the list than the top 14.
Even the creators of the list encourage students to look at other factors that aren´t measured such as concentrations, geography, particular faculty experience, and the list goes on. In droves people all across the country are looking to other sources to research schools such as the Princeton Review.
To be considered a top 100 school among the public is a good thing, and it is no surprise that this publication would find a way to soil a positive review. It has become trendy amongst the younger crowd in the inland NW (especially those who attend EWU and Whitworth) to look for ways to pick apart GU. The funny part is that an author from a liberal publication like this cannot get past his own envy to realize that this is a great example of a large national and east-coast-biased source treading heavily on a smaller, western, community-oriented school that is outshining its caste. Isn´t that a fundamental premise of what it is to be liberal??
And congratulations on taking a sports program that the community loves and rallies around and kicking it while it´s down... Was this the rant of young Spokanite who was simply refused entry to the local pinnacle? It´s highly suspect.
But after all, I suppose the hail of attacks brought on by scorn bred from envy is the burden those at the top must carry. I can live with that.
