Re: “State agency fines care facility for improperly discharging resident

Adult Family Homes are funded poorly. They are not funded enough in most cases to pay for a staff member. The owner does most of the work. I had a family member who was a high amount of care and challenging. He was hospitalized for a long time because no one would agree to serve him, one AFH said she would serve him. DSHS lied to her to get her to take him. I was told not to tell the AFH the truth. This ended not well the owners health declined due to lack of sleep as she was to be available to my family member 24/7. It was sevsere health and safety if a fire happened she could not evacuate my family member alone. She ended up giving notice it was too much and an unfair expectation! Average reimbursements for an Adult Family home are $65 a day. The person is left $58 a month to buy their hygiene, clothing, any personal stuff needed. Not enough money, the AFH owners then end up providing alot of those things as well. This AFH did not deserve the fine. Why is this client stuck in a hospital why hasn't anyone else taken him? There is a valid reason!
