Juneteenth: A Celebration of Resistance

On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas to inform the enslaved African Americans there of their freedom and the end of the Civil War. This momentous occasion has been celebrated by African Americans for 155 years as Juneteenth. In recognition of Juneteenth 2021 visit the MAC to watch a wonderful compilation of short videos created and provided to the MAC courtesy of Smithsonian Institution Affiliations and the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
