I am friends with someone who is close to the Gerlach family and as far as my memory serves me, Gerlach shot because he thought he saw a weapon and feared for his life and the life of his wife who was standing a few feet from him. I am not happy Kaluza-Graham is dead, and I'm sure everyone touched by this horrible incident would wish for it to never have happened. All I'm saying is that this is a moment in time that can't be taken back and may have had elements that complicate the decisions made by all parties...
Your article does touch on some very real issues of materialism and dehumanization. You make some very valid points...
