Managing Your Backyard Forest

Most owners of “backyard forests” (five acres or less of forest land) are interested primarily in keeping their trees healthy and their landscapes attractive. Unfortunately, many do not consider action until backyard forest trees are visibly suffering from some kind of insect or disease problem. Remedies for bark beetles, root disease, and similar forest health problems are usually preventative. This class will help homeowners with smaller acreages of forested land apply basic concepts of forest ecology to their trees, including promoting native North Idaho trees, identifying common forest insects and diseases, and enhancing forest wildlife habitat.
