Re: “The ABCs of R-A-C-E

This article was insulting to Spokane, it's citizens and it's children. "By default," kids stare, period. Because the person is different than what they look at in the mirror, be it darker skin, hair, freckles, pink highlights, missing limb, etc., kids stare. So schools lean toward white history, which is often still incorrect. What are parents teaching at home to supplement? No harassment by neighbors or businesses for white kids? Just flat out untrue! Where are your facts from Northtown Mall on the race of kids "followed, searched or hassled"? Seems you had a bad experience that defined your views. Ethnic salons? I counted 10 online for women alone. I'm sure the men, like my husband, have no problem finding a barber. #6 kills me! White people are never asked to speak for their race? When there are people like you pushing White guilt? When you just said schools only teach about white history. Are the students not giving essays in class? How dare you speak for all whites in Spokane assuming they expect the person in charge to be white? How dare you speak for children telling them they should be feeling isolated and outnumbered. Have you ever stepped foot on a school during recess? #10, color of crayons, paper & bandages is too stupid a comment to dispute. Again, Ms. Dolezal, I feel your own childhood must have had a defining moment, or moments, that colored your adulthood (pun intended). Before you wrap Spokane into that nice white box, get out and walk the schools, malls, Hoopfest, Bloomsday, First Friday, Pig Out, etc. & leave your prejudices at home.
