Mochi Fest

Around the start of the New Year, many Japanese households will take part in the annual tradition of mochitsuki (餅つき, the pounding of rice to make mochi. Mochi, also called a rice cake, is pounded sweet rice that can be eaten in a sweet or savory dish. Also includes an “Osoji,” or ritual cleaning of the with items for sale. Proceeds benefit the temple's minister assistants’ education. Dec. 30 from 11:30 am-12:30 pm; Dec. 31 from 7:30-8:30 pm.
