Firstly, all road users should understand and be able to use hand signals – they are part of the drivers’ test. Secondly, cars should not weave in and out of lanes. Thirdly, if the circumstances demand it, the center of the lane is exactly where a cyclist belongs and motorists should gracefully accommodate the rider. Lastly, the sidewalk is not a safe place for high-speed cycling.

If Spokane seeks to rival Portland in its encouragement of cycling, drivers like your writer should be pulled from the streets. His intemperate words are a threat to Interstate Commerce (some of us commute by bike across the Washington/Idaho border). This writer has serious anger issues and is a threat to other road users – I have asked the Inlander to provide contact information with a view to prosecution at the Federal level.
