Print History and Broadside Printing Demo

Whitworth University associate professors Dr. Bert Emerson, an expert on book and print culture history, and Dr. Thom Caraway, whose expertise includes publishing, editing and book design, are joined by Gonzaga assistant professor Reinaldo Zambrano, who specializes in printmaking, drawing and community-oriented projects, to offer a talk on the history of printing. Afterward, Dr. Caraway demonstrates broadside printing using the MAC’s historic Washington Press, a printing format that was by far the most popular iron hand press in America from the 1820s until the end of the hand press era.
