Re: “Ax Man

A true original. Danny Songhurst is the man. Finally, a write-up about someone who actually deserves it.

Re: “Lights Out

yeah, they actually finish the article implying that the guy committed some sort of crime or participated in shady activity just to pay his outrageous utility bill. You know what happens when the American people get robbed? They usually sit back and let it happen, only getting up to make comments on a message board nobody reads.

Re: “Jerad who?

Every time I see this guy in Spokane, he´s been way too high to play music. The sound engineer doesn´t know how to react to his ever changing keyboard and guitar volumes. His guitar player usually opens for him as a solo act which is incredibly tacky and creates a strange tension on stage. I can barely understand his mumbles over the poor Spokanites trying to ignore his set by gossiping about what bar to go to next.
With that being said, he has put on good performances. He does have some talent and he works way harder than many of his Spokane counterparts. He will always go to a town where they play his music and do a live show. There is no doubt his success will continue.
But why does he make his hometown crowd suffer? I hope he has his **** together for this show. There are plenty of acts working for this level of attention. It would be a very selfish thing to blow through Spokane with another subpar performance.

Re: “Call Me

I have to agree with Patrick here. Ben is a really great guy. I´ve had the pleasure of meeting him on two occasions and he really is very talented. But it does become a job after a while. Filling in is not fulfilling after a while. There comes a point where you´re willing to let your pocketbook suffer to push your own artistic agenda.
But to be really honest, I´m tired of the Inlander handing out write-ups to buddies. He does deserve some attention, but not from this paper. I highly doubt that the quote Soma pulled from this article was even word for word. Jordy Byrd does not use a tape recorder. It´s just a notepad and pencil and her interpretation of what you said a week earlier. He probably sounds like a jerk because he was misquoted, so let it go.
As for Ben, I wish him the best of luck. Hopefully I´ll get the chance to play music with him in this wonderful and vibrant Spokane music scene.

Re: “'National Ransom,' Elvis Costello

Elvis Costello leaves better material in his stool than you ever get to hear about. I´m not even a fan but this new album is exactly the opposite of what you described. And who cares if he hired musicians that actually know how to play their instruments? Do you just want some more hacks that only learned how to play a few months ago trolling around the streets of Spokane looking for a handout from your paper? If your half-hearted attempts at journalism are still around in 30 years, you might earn enough respect to critique musicians of this caliber.

Re: “'Through the Dark,' Mark Ward

"Wrapped in a tapestry of sound"? Please. Spare me your verbal fellatio. This is guy is decent, but he is friends with people working at the Inlander. And that´s all I´ve ever seen at his shows, are his friends. I´ve listened to his music and it´s just like every other Spokane wanna-be folk musician. Grab an acoustic guitar, grow a beard and sing a bunch of rehashed metaphors borrowed from obscure 60´s and 70´s folk. Don´t pretend that you don´t favor this guy because of his connections to your paper. Stop playing favorites. You´re better than that. If you can rip apart bands you don´t know, you can criticize your buddies, too.
