If you were alive in the ’90s, you no doubt recall the ska boom; whether or not you remember the craze fondly is another story. But it goes without saying that Reel Big Fish is one of the grandaddies of the genre, and they’re still going strong all these years later. The Orange County outfit just released a new album called Life Sucks… Let’s Dance!, and anyone expecting a major stylistic departure just doesn’t know Reel Big Fish. It’s a reliable collection of danceable reggae-inspired beats, bright horn lines and wry humor, exploring the band’s pet subjects of booze, partying and the inevitable morning-after regret — oh, and as is customary, a couple unexpected cover songs.
