The Kalispel Tribe hosts this 3-day, 51-mile journey on Lake Pend Oreille and the Pend Oreille River, with members of neighboring tribes and the community. The paddle ends during the Kalispel Tribe's powwow on Aug. 5. The launch at City Beach in Sandpoint, Aug. 3 at 9 am, is free to watch. Ends in Usk, Wash. on Aug. 5. (671-7183)

Peace Memorial for Nagasaki and Hiroshima

The Peace and Justice Action League of Spokane hosts an event to commemorate the estimated 225,000 lives lost in the U.S. bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945. It aims to remind us that this kind of mass destruction must never happen again, and that we must seek peaceful ways to resolve international conflicts. Wed, Aug. 9 from 5:30-7 pm. Riverfront Park, at the Spokane Convention Center steps.

Pullman Nonprofit Showcase

The Pullman Chamber of Commerce hosts a community showcase with representatives from many regional nonprofits that serve the area, an event held during the Chamber's August general membership luncheon. Tue, Aug. 8; lunch from noon-1 pm ($12-$15, RSVP required), showcase (free) from 1-2 pm. SEL Event Center, 1825 Schweitzer Dr., Pullman. (334-3565)

Tools for Schools Drive

The Coeur d'Alene Tribe and KREM 2's ninth annual community school drive's mission is to provide backpacks and school supplies to area children in need. Donations are accepted through Aug. 16, with bins set up at Spokane- and Coeur d'Alene-area Walmart locations. Cash donations can be made at the Coeur d'Alene Casino. (448-2000)
