I disagree almost entirely.

Yes Godzilla doesn't really care about humans, even though he inadvertently ends up saving the world most of the time.

But there is a strong sympathetic connection between Godzilla and humanity (which you can see in the shots from the latest film where he makes eye contact with the main character twice, and the crowds who aren't sure whether to run or cheer.)

Godzilla is nature defying our attempts to control it. Nature is untameable, unimaginably destructive and operates on a scale which makes humans irrelevant. But nature also operates to our benefit, equally without any personal regard for the matter.
Humanity believes it has conquered nature with technology and civilization, but every now and then we are brutally reminded of our insignificance, and how awesome the forces are that control our existence. Even though we suffer the consequences and feel fear and loss, there's also a deep, deep part of us that respects and pays homage to that power.
