Re: “Tragedy of John Wayne

Well, my buddy and I must be some of the 'one or two' people who rode on the trail this year. We recently made a trip from Western Washington across to Idaho, checking out various sections of trail along the way, including the amazing Snoqualmie tunnel, (we looked at a beautiful section near Lower Crab Creek, but did not have time to ride it), Rock Lake (amazing), short sections near Pine City, Malden, Rosalia, and Tekoa, and also the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes. All were amazing on their own, but taken as something resembling a whole, this is a public treasure that MUST be preserved. The rightful landowners are the public, as that is who deeded the land to the railroads in the first place. I did not see any place that would qualify as a 'miserable ride.' To the contrary, the undeveloped sections were some of the most amazing places I have ridden. Not to mention the small towns we saw along the way, which had tons of character and really great people. Anyways, I can't wait for an opportunity to go back to see more trail and spend some tourist dollars along the way!
