Dr. Andrew M. Oster, PhD Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics at Eastern Washington University presents "Development of the Primary Visual Cortex." The 1981 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was (in part) jointly awarded to David H. Hubel and Torsten N. Wiesel "for their discoveries concerning information processing in the visual system." In this talk, Dr. Oster gives a survey of some of these critical experiments that shaped our understanding of the organization and development of the primary visual cortex.
