Survivor, Loverboy

Less than a year ago, Loverboy sold out Northern Quest’s Pend Oreille Pavilion, delivering a nonstop run through many of the songs that filled the airwaves during the early days of MTV and helped make the ’80s so memorable for music fans of a certain age (ahem). “Working for the Weekend,” “Lucky Ones” and “Turn Me Loose” are still in regular rotation on classic-rock radio, and while I went to last year’s Loverboy show expecting to chuckle more than cheer, the Canadian crew showcased musical chops I didn’t anticipate. Guitarist Paul Dean and multi-instrumentalist Doug Johnson in particular killed it, and singer Mike Reno remains an affable, good-humored frontman. This time around, Loverboy is joined by Survivor and the “Eye of the Tiger” band’s new 22-year-old singer Cameron Barton.
