The New Old Time Chautaqua

Combine musicians and cultural performances with intellectual discussions, and you’ve appealed to the fundamental interests of hipsters everywhere. The Chautauqua circuit, touring tent shows hosted in rural communities across the country, flourished in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Some 150 years later, the Seattle-based New Old Time Chautauqua is the only such show in the U.S. The provocative, educational vaudeville performance lights up the stage with everything from acrobatics to comedy, and also features the Flying Karamazov Brothers, an act that first came to Spokane during Expo ’74. This event remains focused on local community-building, with proceeds benefiting KYRS Thin Air Community Radio.
