Most people over the age of 18 know the story of The Odyssey, Homer’s epic poem about the Greek hero Odysseus’ journey from Troy to Ithaca after the 10-year Trojan War. A fun story on its face, but it takes a bit of brain power to read and understand the ancient Greek text. This stage production of The Odyssey is Gonzaga Theatre’s first in a new initiative called “Theatre for Young Audiences” featuring more digestible versions of familiar tales. The play focuses on the adventures of Odysseus and his loyal, made-up-for-this-production, pal Dumbocles. The pair encounter plenty of pitfalls on their trip to Ithaca including a cyclops and some Greek gods. Whether you’re 12 or 22, this production is sure to take you on a journey of epic proportions.
