The Yawpers

The Yawpers advertise themselves as “American rock ’n’ roll,” and their work sometimes feels like a guided tour through all the popular genres of the last century — a little bit of Americana, roots and blues, with twinges of country and bluegrass. The Denver trio’s new album Human Question has been described by frontman and songwriter Nate Cook as his “way out of depression,” and the structure of the record certainly exhibits the mood swings of a person working through their issues, with just as many four-on-the-floor rockers as wistful, wet-eyed songs of longing and regret. We mean that in the best way possible.
