Re: “The ABCs of R-A-C-E

What people aren't understanding is that racism and prejudice are two different things, similar but not completely the same. Prejudice is more the hate part, where you are judge, degraded, humiliated, and put into a certain box because of your skin color and is held in people's minds and hearts. Racism has more to do with the systematic setup America has. Allow me to explain, when people first came to America they came from the white supremacist belief system of Europe. They believed that whites where superior to any other race, now I know you might say well what about us befriending the Indians? Well what about them being pushed off their land and killed? Anyway, push forward years to the Declaration of Independence which didn't even recognize blacks because we weren't thought of as "people" because we weren't white and therefore did not count. That foundation of white supremacy set up our nations guidelines. Keep fast forwarding and you see we have the Civil Rights movement where blacks had to "fight the system" because the "system was against them". Yeah, we got the Jim Crow laws banished but those were only added years after the Declaration was created so those basic principles of white supremacy still existed. That system is still here today, yeah we have a black president and lets not even get on the mixed argument, that's a whole nother situation y'all can't even begin to understand.

What this article was trying to bring to attention is how a minority is treated by are American "system". How black people had to carve their way into this country, and still do to this day because we aren't getting represented and treated as equals. How this "system" still isn't addressing us as people, isn't teaching a more diverse history, you'd be surprised at how much was tucked away in European history when you start to dig. I mean you do realize why we had to make a black history month right? How the media and government deals with us is completely different than how it deals with white americans and that's just the truth.
