Wallace Gyro Days & Lead Creek Derby

Do you have fond memories of dropping a large, leather beachball into a creek and guessing how quickly it would travel 7 miles? Those who don’t should start this year. Head to the 74th annual Wallace Gyro Days and Lead Creek Derby to watch the colorful orb travel down the Coeur d’Alene River from Mullan, Idaho to the Sixth Street bridge in Wallace. The ball drops at noon on Saturday. Buy a $1 ticket and guess the most accurate time to win first prize: $1,000 in silver coins from the North Idaho town known as the “Silver Capital of the World.” The historic mining town kicks off its annual summer celebration with a carnival, food and fun rides starting Thursday at noon.
