Only the most hardcore of WSU basketball fans would have gone out of their way to travel to Pullman for a game the last couple of years. It was pretty rough going at Beasley Coliseum as former coach Ernie Kent’s squad struggled mightily. With a new coach comes new hope, though, and Matt Smith already has the Cougs looking like a much tougher defensive team, while returning star sophomore CJ Elleby is back filling up the stat sheet, averaging more than 20 points a game. The Cougs take on the New Mexico Lobos Saturday, and you don’t even have to go to Pullman to root for WSU.
