Re: “The Inlander Responds To Complaints

Anyone who has ever lived anywhere else knows that the Spokane Police Dept. has some issues.
There´s nothing wrong with bringing these matters to light, and I´m sure there are some police officers who are ready to review the system and be part of a more effective police force.
And I hope they have ended or plan to end ride-along programs with teenagers. Or at least get them uniforms. It´s really unprofessional and discrediting to respond to someone in the midst of a crisis with some kid wearing flip-flops.

Re: “Shadle teacher returns to class on Monday

I wish now that I had filed many more complaints regarding my education at Shadle, before 1998.
Their most embedded staff were at times charmingly incapable, and the faculty members with the highest skill level as teachers seemed to know that they should keep their heads down, so to speak.
A long time AP Biology teacher not only did not instruct us using the materials that would actually be on the AP test, making the class not in effect an advanced placement class, but he also used the class time to instruct us on pseudo-scientific philosophy, including "long-day" and "short-day" creationism, which needless to say did not in any way prepare any of us for college science or to think scientifically.
I am just totally angered that Shadle insists upon punishing teachers who actually might succeed in preparing students for the rest of their journeys.
This is injurious to Spokane´s economy. Companies take into account the quality of local schools and other aspects of life before moving locations there.
This reflects poorly.

Re: “Shadle teacher in hot water for distributing Blue Scholars lyrics

I was a Shadle graduate. They don´t really respond well to creativity, even the really obvious, usually institutionally accepted methods.
In 1997, or thereabouts, my College Prep. English teacher was reprimanded just for allowing us to read Shakespeare outside and on school grounds during a sunny day.
Blue Scholars is one of the best hip-hop groups out there, and they´re strictly Northwest. We should be proud.
