Re: “Taxes: Idaho vs. Washington

@ Poached
That sounds a lot like socialism to me. I live in Washington state and we are being taxed out of here. We own a small business and small organic farm, we have been trying to build a barn for our farm for a couple years on our very dry property, now we have a pocket gopher issue that could cost $42000 yes you read that right $42000 just for the pleasure of building on your land, and that does not include the building permits. It can cost well over $100000 in this state in building permits and fee's just to build an average size home, I know we are trying to do it. So we are looking at Idaho and Montana, in Idaho some counties don't even have building permits, you go out and build your home on your land, if it falls down on you that's your problem. That's how it should be in a free country, but Washington state is far from free. I have lived in Olympia my entire 40 years and love it very much, but cannot stand the progressive liberal, socialist government, they are pushing us out. They want everyone to live in the city and walk everyplace, they are out of control and the schools have more money than they know what to do with. The problem is you can't spend your way out of a horrible school system that does not pay on the merits of a good teacher, the unions see to that. If anyone reads this I urge you to look at other states to live if you enjoy your freedom even a little bit. Another point of contention is the property taxes, we live in a very very modest 1000sq ft home that is falling down around us and pay over $3500 a year in property tax, and that's low for here. If we build a new 1500 sq ft house on our 8 acre farm our taxes will go up around $8,000 per year and I can't afford that. We are barely making it as it is, with the highest gas tax in the nation. These greedy people in local and state government have their hands out constantly. While being sued for taking over people's land and loosing around 15 million in tax payer funds for going against the state constitution and taking peoples land rights away, and when asked about loosing that amount of money the county planners said they basically don't care, they are untouchable. Why would anyone want to live here? It's beautiful, that's not even arguable. But the politics make it so ugly it's sickening.
