Near Simultaneous Release

Hardwave faves Flee the Century are doing dual CD-release concerts Friday before embarking on a long West Coast tour that spans Christmas (and takes them down to Juarez Mex, sketchily). Prago at 7 pm; Mootsy's at 9 on Friday night.

Excellence

Local Celtic crew An Dochas just won a national award for their Dragonfly Redux, the Just Plain Folks Best Instrumental Celtic Album of 2006. Band member Mellad Abeid said the band leaves Thursday on a tour of the East Coast, so the next time you'll be able to hear the band in Spokane is at First Night.

Cancelled

Know that Collin Raye concert all you Collin Raye fans were looking forward to? It's not happening anymore. Both the Spokane date and the Yakima date got axed. You can call 325-SEAT or head back to wherever you got the tickets for a refund.

Finish Strong

Between, Raekwon, Redman, Smif-N-Wessun, Supernatural and Dirty Heads on Monday (see page 53), and Public Enemy the Monday after -- 2006, the year in Spokane hip-hop concerts, is going to be defined by the way it ends. If you have even a passing interest in rap, you shouldn't miss either of these shows.

Admission Tax Finality

It is finished. The City Council voted to approve a heavily amended admission tax proposal Monday night. The facts are as follows: the owners of venues with a capacity above 200 are liable for the admission tax when promoters fail to pay. Further, shows at venues under 200 capacity that have charged ticket prices greater than $10 also have to pay. Nonprofits will be exempt, as will venues that cooperate to track down offending promoters.
